The good news is that it is very easy to get rid of such movements. Once you watch your speech on video and notice irrelevant movements or gestures, you may think, “I never thought I was doing this. It looks awkward. Next time I will make sure to not do it again.” After several speeches, you will not have to control if you are doing irrelevant movement or not because this habit will be gone.
Be specific
Ric’s speech will become much more visual, tangible, and clear if he avoids using complex terms and ambiguous language. For example: “I had a good life.” “Good life” is a complex term, because everybody understands it differently. You might think, “Good life is when you have a wife, kids, and several friends.” Your audience member may think, “Good life is when you make a lot of money and are successful in your career” or “Good life is when you have good health and have enough money for food.” If you use a complex term, always clarify what it means for you to be on the same page with the audience.
